From invitation to landing — what the PR application actually involves

An invitation to apply gives you sixty days to submit a complete permanent residence application. Everything you claimed in your profile now has to be evidenced. This is where files fail: a reference letter that omits hours, funds that appeared last month, or a police certificate from a country you forgot you lived in.

After approval

COPR and PR visa

Approved applicants receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence. Overseas applicants also receive a permanent resident visa counterfoil and must land before its expiry.

Landing

You complete the landing formality at a port of entry or online where eligible, receive your PR card by post at a Canadian address, and obtain a Social Insurance Number.

Residency obligation

You must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days in every rolling five-year period to keep PR status, with limited exceptions for accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse or Canadian employer assignments.

Path to citizenship

Three years of physical presence within the preceding five, plus language and knowledge requirements for applicants aged 18 to 54.

Where we add the most value

Our work on a PR file is concentrated in three places: rebuilding employment evidence so that every claimed year survives review, structuring settlement funds so there are no unexplained movements, and responding to procedural fairness letters and requests for additional documents within days rather than weeks. We also prepare a pre-landing brief covering health cover in your first province, credential recognition for your occupation, school admission for children and first-job search.
